You found a wild baby… what next?

Wild babies should, if at all possible, be reunited with their mothers . We are only here as a last resort for these babies. Below I will address what to do if you come across a wild baby.

If you find an orphaned baby  find a box or container  to secure them in and place it as close as safely possible to where it was found (e.g. at the base of its nest tree, in a basket up high in a tree)). Make sure the baby  is protected from the elements (rain, direct heat during summer months, heat source if weather is cold) and leave it out overnight. Check the box or container in the morning. If the baby  is still there, call a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for help. DO NOT FEED!! If you feed the wrong milk or when they are cold (they can not process milk when cold) you will make things worse or even cause death. Provide a safe warm environment until you can reach a licensed rehabber.

 If you have a raccoon  nesting in your attic, shed or other structure, place a radio or put a strobe light and make the area uncomfortable. Raccoons have several nests/dens in the area and she will move her babies. Once they are all safely gone, secure the area and block any entrances.
